Desktop/Client requirements
In this section there are the system requirements needed for the Desktop/Client version to work properly. The requirements for the Server are listed in the following section.
Minimal system requirements
In the table below there is the minimal system configuration required in order do use the product. The lack of one of these requirements might prevent the software to install or start correctly.

MS SQL Server requirements
This program requires MS SQL Server 2019 (available only for Windows 10, 64 bit) or MS SQL Server 2014 SP3 (available for Windows 7 SP1 or newer, not included with the setup and not officially supported). In the case you wouldn't own this product, it is possible to use the "Express" edition (or "LocalDB", only for Desktop installations) which is completely free and included with the full instal setup.
Anyway, the MS SQL Server 2019 Express edition has some limitations compared to the the full commercial product:
- Less than 1 socket or 4 cores per istance: although it can be installed on multiprocessor or multicore computers, the service is limited to less than 1 socket or 4 cores per istance.
- 1 GB of RAM per istance: the service may not take advantage of the additional memory possibly available on the system.
- 10 GB per database: each relational database cannot grow over 10 GB. This is not a problem since normally the database of CEM4 are quite small (if they don't contain too many resources embedded in the Technical File).
For every particular needs we suggest to upgrade to a commercial edition. MS SQL Server is continuously updated by Microsoft: we suggest to use the update services, when available, in order to have always the latest version installed.

Compatibility table between Windows and MS SQL Server versions
The outdated versions of Windows may not be able to support the most recent versions of MS SQL Server; and, at the same time, the most recent versions of Windows may not be able to support the outdated versions of MS SQL Server (see this external link: https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/troubleshoot/sql/general/sql-server-windows-8-later-versions).
Very important!
The downgrade of a MS SQL Server version (namely, using a previous version after a newer one) is never supported in any case.
For example, a database of MS SQL Server 2019 will never be mounted or read by MS SQL Server 2017 or previous.
In the table of the attached file it is possible to find all the possible configurations with the supported and suggested versions according to the Operating System installed on the computer. Please note that the table may not be complete and it refers only to the Express and LocalDB editions: for the commercial edtions the requirements may change according to the type of the licence.
Moreover, both the Operating System and MS SQL Server itself, must always be updated to the latest available Service Pack. For each case, we suggest to check the compatibility by reading the official documentation available on the Microsoft site.
